The SDC Lahore has been constituted by the Ministry of Labour, Manpower & Overseas Pakistanis on the initiative of World Bank, ILO, and Employers Federation of Pakistan under the National Training Ordinance 1980(2000) to make the Technical & Vocational Training program flexible, demand-driven and cost effective with the maximum participation of employers.

SDC'S Training Programs are relevant to the needs of the Industry and flexible to respond to changing needs carry high employability factor
Skill Development Council provides a productive link between employers, employees, training providers, and trainers.
  • Identify training needs of the geographical area, analyze and prioritize training needs and arrange training, re-training as well as skill up-gradation through contracted arrangements with public / private training institutes/establishments and in-plant training modes.
  • Develop the potential of workforce by increasing their standards of skills and basic education so as to increase productivity, quality of product, and to meet the needs of both domestic & international markets.
  • Motivate Employers to operate as investors in human capital, so as to encourage organizations to invest in people through participation in skill development programs beside arranging skill competitions for enhancing the popularity of vocational training in all areas and improving proficiency of skilled workers as well as promote self employment by providing loans to winners.
  • Support informal sector i.e. ustad-shagrid system through provision of training for skill
    enhancement and trade testing. Provide skill training and structured education to working children at small garages and workshops to protect child labour and bring them into main stream of vocational education & training.
  • Develop & implement special training programs for women, children of industrial workers and under privileged youth to prepare them for gainful employment or to engage in some income generating activities to raise their living standard and social status through self-employment.
  • Develop & arrange specialized training programs in IT for unemployed educated youth ( matriculate-graduate) and provide them maximum opportunities of employment at home & abroad.
  • Introduction & promotion of distance learning, computer based training and new training technologies including video conferencing through support and affiliation with international institutes/universities involving local institutes.
  • Any other program and activities to promote vocational education and training in the country.
78,800 participants trained in various high-tech demand- driven, marketable skills.
  • 10000 participants attended the Workshops/seminars.
  • Seminars on Information Technology in collaboration with Inter-ED, Chambers of Commerce, Axis Learning Canada, Infologix & IT department, Govt. of Punjab.
  • Pioneers in ISO9000, ISO-14000, SA-8000 awareness workshops & seminars.
  • Secretarial & receptionist skill training program conducted in collaboration with GTZ & British Council, Lahore and 175 trainees were trained and placed by JPC/GTZ.
  • Organized an Information Technology Fair 2002 & 2003-4 in collaboration with IT Department, Punjab, inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab.
  • Workshops on "Role of SDC's in Employment Promotion" in collaboration with Agha Khan Economic Planning Board, Punjab.
  • WEBCOP seminars at Lahore, Multan & Faisalabad, Sialkot.
  • Workshop on "Role of Private Sector in Education" in collaboration with Sayal Movement inaugurated by Education Minister, Punjab.
  • Pioneers in AIDS awareness & protection campaign through seminars/workshops amongst the vulnerable industrial workers of Lahore district.
  • Hair Style & Beauty course in collaboration with and more than 500 ladies were trained as Beauticians. This program is continuing due to high employability factor.
  • Introduced new courses for Doctors on "Hospital Administration", "Computers in Health practice", & "Research methodology" in collaboration with Center for Health & Population Studies.
  • Awareness campaign on Working Girl Child for a period of three months in collaboration with ILO-IPEC.
  • Training scheme for industrial/technical courses, prepared for workers/workers children.
    Implementing training programs with SMEDA, PITAC, TEVTA & other renowned public/ private sector institutions/ technical colleges.
  • Collaboration with TDAP (EPB) for training & ISO certifications.
  • Conducted special training programs for EOBI
  • Collaboration with Edexcel for the promotion of Vocational/skill qualifications for National Diploma (ND) & Higher National Diploma (HND) U.K qualifications.
  • Training programs with Pak Swiss Small Scale Enterprise Promotion (SSEP).
    Montessori Teachers training programs with PMC.
  • Non Formal Education (NFE) & vocational training programs consisting of 18 centers & 750 enrolled children including siblings in collaboration with ILO-IPEC, Islamabad.
  • 2500 children are getting pre-vocational training in sewing, embroidery, carpet skills and appropriate technologies in collaboration with ILO-IPEC, Lahore.
  • 1000 workers/workers children from 100 registered industries are under-training/ completed training in various vocational/skill up-grading courses from reputed public/private institutions/colleges at Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Bhawalpur being fully subsidized by SDC, Lahore.
  • High-tech Textiles/ fashion programs are offered keeping in mind the importance of textile in Pakistan and employability factor.
  • International level courses on documentaries production and performing arts are introduced keeping in view the introduction of new cable/TV channels.
  • Visit of missions/delegations from various international organizations to SDC, Lahore.
    Project proposals to Federal Government for the training of manpower for employment to Malaysia & Gulf countries.
  • Program for CGFNS( Commission on Graduate Foreign Nursing) in collaboration with Academy of Medical Sciences for Pakistani nurses to enable them eligible for U.S employment opportunities.
